Just so I can build spaceships.

It’s just sooooo addictive and fun. But as long as there is no Sandbox mode, or a mode to save spaceship designs, I just can’t do it without using piles of money.

It’s not that I’m short of money (had like 700k when I started building like crazy), but wasting all that money just for a few ships I like, fly once or twice for fun, and then completely scrap and rebuild into new ones is just not feasible.

So, while I’m sad that I disabled achievements (and am too lazy to use ScriptExtender + AchievementUnlocker), I can now properly play “Space Lego”.

That’s all and thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I need a way to “preview” the interior of the new ship without having to confirm everything, walk back to my ship, then walk back to the mechanic when it’s inevitably not what I want.

I’d love for a module in game that creates the ladders and hatches and stuff. slap it on a node, it doesn’t take up space so the next hab connects just fine, but it defines that point as the ladder/airlock/interior door/ open passage between habs.

I literally spent 5 hours and 600k credits making a ship. Thank God I liked it, cause I had 9k credits left afterwards…I still need to fuck with the layout of the rooms, cause it’s kinda maze-y, but it’s easy enough.

Yeah, what a silly sequence they force. And then you think you have the design down but just change a hab type and the doors and ladders all move, like wtf!

I think the idea behind it is so that players don’t have to awkwardly place doors or hatches manually. I wish the option for it existed though. Also stairs.

Unless someone prove me wrong, but I haven’t found a way to start a ship from scratch? I always have to buy a random ship, destroy every6, and start over.

    Its so weird.

Yeah it’s not possible to build ships from scratch. You need a buy or steal a base ship and then can only modify.

Folk are saying steal a ship to add to your fleet to get slot for a custom ship… you have to register a stolen ship before you can enter the ship builder but almost every cheap stolen ship I’ve ever captured has been 10k or 11k to register. I one time got like a level 4 ecliptic ship that was 9.8k to register but that was the cheapest. The ports sell ships for 6k - 7k. I also think the commerce perk gets them cheaper but I don’t know if it affects registration price at all. Don’t waste time pirating ships just to replace all the parts, just buy the cheapest ship. Best thing to do with most pirate ships, if you happen to have one is register and sell it to make a couple thousand credits.

That’s the way I do it too. I rarely sell ships so I can have a slot to use to build a new ship when I want to.

I always love stealing ships when I’m on a random planet/moon to add to my collection for this reason. I don’t steal from civilians, just the enemy factions like Crimson Fleet, etc.

Protip for new playthroughs: choose the Wanted perk. This will get you more opportunities to steal ships, in addition to more chances to have bodies to loot.

I figured I already lost achievements using no clip to get unstuck from some Bethesda bullshit, so I have no problem adding a bunch of digipicks when I run out because I haven’t yet grown accustomed to them being used up every time. The previous lockpicking systems only consumed your picks if they broke.

But, uh… if you want real Space Lego: Buy Space Engineers. ;)

I have so many digipicks, and I unlock everything I see. I found the first time I ran out I was using the “redo” option while picking, that wastes a pick. Was a lot more careful after that and started planning my uses before locking them into grooves.

Double click any part within ship builder, which will highlight the entire ship in red. Then I believe the default key (J) will show up in the bottom as “Color (J)” if memory serves. I think if you move the mouse after clicking the option won’t appear.

Also, is there an easy way to make everything the same colour?

double click with with [LMB] to select everything that’s connected to the module you’re clicking on; or CTRL-LMB to group a selection of modules; then press [J] to bring up the color menu.

Honestly the controller UI for shipbuilding is better than the mouse one; I tried shipbuilding with a mouse because I wasn’t super happy with the controller UI, but I found placing modules way harder with the mouse because you don’t have manual control of which level it goes on, the game tries to guess where you want it based on your mouse position and it’s not always right.

Or, just hear me out here, not everyone has the patience to constantly update mods for a game this early after its release? I LOVE modding BGS games, but I’m staying the heck away from anything but loose-file mods until things settle down.

No, Vortex can do it automatically - if you use that piece of “software.” I’m content to wait for a stable release of ModOrganizer specific to Starfield and am installing things manually for now.

If you’re going to be a pedant, it’s better to fully commit. Insinuating that software isn’t software based on your opinion isn’t technically accurate, and thus undermines your self-righteous quibble, kiddo.

I don’t care for achievements. After filling my inventory, my ship cargo, each of my crews inventories, and making multiple trips between the lodges infinite chest, and my multiple outposts to build/research things, I just made my carry capacity 100k using the console. I still collect all my raw materials and crafting components, but building outposts is way less of a hassle now.

I gotta ask how are people having problems getting credits? I have 1.3 million and that’s after building a 700k ship. I do have an outpost farm for adaptive frames but those don’t sell for much. I sell everything that i don’t already have on me (i hoard everything i get unless i already have it) i also spend probably too much time going to the buildings that randomly generate and kill everyone and loot absolutely everything. Only cheat I’ve done is make my mass 999999 as i absolutely hate weight limits.

Only issue I’ve seen doing this is my inventory is laggy when viewing the insane amount of guns i have. I could sell the different alterations of guns i have but when i sell i just look for shit that’s 2 or more. Hopefully a mod can come along and rename things better. For example you have a grendal and then a modified grendal but in the inventory it’s 2 separate things. Maybe a mod can move the special tag that’s generated when modifying/finding a weapon after the original weapon name so i can flip through faster selling guns i already have.

    Edit: for example

    Old:

    Grendal

    Modified grendal

    New:

    Grendal

    Grendal modified

Yeah, your mass 99999 is why you have a ton of money. I don’t begrudge anyone playing the way they want to play, but don’t act like that’s not a significant ‘cheat’. Again, more power to ya

Oh, I don’t have a problem getting money. I have the problem spending it.

Like, of course I’m looting everything (don’t care about oxygen, I don’t die because of it) and selling it - but that’s super tedious. Great, the Key has 5 vendors next to each other, but when you play on very hard, half of the guns you find sell for 3-5k and those vendors are immediatly broke again.

Just the loot from cleaning one ecliptic Camp (which is fun) takes super long to turn into money.

Time I could spend building spaceships.

if you’re not looking to cheat, you can find a nearby bench and just wait for 48 hours, they’ll reset after that and have full money stocks again. but otherwise the vendors are way too broke in this game.

After my trials in Oblivion I realized that cheating almost always sucks the fun out of the game - unless through mods that enhance gameplay. As much as I hate to say it, most of the fun in Bethesda games is the… G… Grind. Almost every second I’m not shooting or looting I want to be and I hate that’s all it takes for my dopamine to go off.

Hoping the next game has better perks than “10% more damage with x” but I digress. Hope you have fun in your sandbox but be careful not to overdo it.

I try hard not to do things that are too cheaty too. Ruins the fun for me as well, however - convenience type things like increasing the money a shop has so I don’t have to wait a billion times to sell stuff? Bet your ass.

For real. There is an unmistakable line between the two categories of Nexus mods, and the non-cheaty QoL-focused ones are simply incredible in the way they make an already fun game into something I really lose hours in. Hell, my first character is 17th lvl and I just last night brought the third artifact back to HQ. There’s SO much to do outside the main storyline! 🤩✨

@RealFknNito I can appreciate how the game is designed to be addictive: it’s several different games in one really. But that’s dependent on people getting vested in the game, and they seem to have found a way to make that work and make it relatively seamless.
