Anytime online video game cheating is brought up, Chinese people are blamed and this thread supposedly is sourced a lot. Just wondering if this is all true or there are other factors like higher population/just don’t notice non-chinese names?
The OP tried to collectively psychoanalyze Chinese people, but didn’t give any data that directly supports that Chinese people tend to be hackers more than other ethnicities. At most, the post explains why the Chinese people who already cheat in games do so.
Wasn’t the myth supposed to be Russians/Indians some 10 years back? I think it’s a lot of confirmation bias due to foreign sounding names, but it could have a slight boost due to having a stronger tech environment while allowing some very accessible forums for general game hackery (both cheats and piracy). The comments are quite funny in their obliviousness, though:
Appreciate the insight. I think a lot of people don’t realize it’s a social issue over there with the mentality of “Win by absolutely any means necessary.”.
Interesting, I’ve heard that there are similar issues with cheating on Chinese educational exams where there is huge pressure to score well to get into good schools or jobs.
… it’s a social issue over there with the mentality of “Win by absolutely any means necessary.”
is probably living under a neoliberal market.
I only know westerners who cheat at online games. Mostly because i’m a westerner. The racists are probably projecting and dogwhistling and racisting.
Judging by Goat’s video “The Wiggle Which Ruined Tarkov”, people just don’t recognize/remember the western players
I imagine pretty much every East/Southeast Asian hacker is just assumed to be Chinese.
The higher population is the main factor. Westerners also complain a lot about Indian scammers. Both China and India have large populations, so there will simply be more scammers there even if the cheaters-per-capita is the same across all countries.
