      I’ll bet adults are helping that one. It’s a fantastic comfort movie, and Lin Manuel’s music is uniquely infectious and resilient to overplay-fatigue.

    So, kids rewatch things a million times is what I’m getting here. My 6 year old nephew has probably seen every toy story movie a couple dozen times. He loves Buzz.

      I’m 35 and my 2022 watch history includes a lot of these films. Basically, Disney knocked it out of the park with their recent movies. You have a great point about kids rewatching things they enjoy but I’ve probably seen Turning Red, Moana, and Encanto at least 3 time apiece myself.

      Moana drops in the second half big time. Frozen remains pretty consistent and subverts the princess falling in love trope.

        I kind of feel like Frozen makes no sense and is a loosely contrived plot wrapped around what they knew would be a hit song.

          I agree the plot is mediocre, but it stays mediocre through the end. Moana just drops off a cliff after the second act. I can’t remember anything significant because nothing significant really happens in terms of resolving the story arcs. Of course, this is just my opinion.

      By far imo. To this day I don’t understand the popularity of Frozen. Maybe because there are 2 princesses?

        Frozen takes the traditional “princess meets prince, they fall in love” trope and turns it on its head. While in many Disney princess movies, the prince is the source of resolution, and Frozen starts out painting this picture, by the end it is clear that the guy who suddenly appeared in Anna’s life and tried to court her is not a good guy. The foreshadowed act of true love is actually about her relationship with her sister.

        While this kid’s movie is not overwhelmingly complex in plot, it’s understandable if some would put it a bit above Moana, which is also a good movie. But the plot of Moana is essentially a duo going on a MacGuffin hunt with a few character-shifting plot points sprinkled onto that path. But it’s more colorful and has a wider range of enjoyable songs, so depending on what you like, it may be a better watch. To each their own.

          I love using Hans as an example when I’m trying to explain to my children that sometimes bad people will pretend to be nice to you.

        Little girls love the stories about sisters (and boys too maybe! but I have no experience with that) and about having magical powers.

        Frozen kinda speaks to both of those things directly, and while those themes are also somewhat present in Moana they don’t scratch the same itch.

        That being said, I’ve yet to meet any kid that likes either one to dislike the other, even if they have a particular favorite.

          I guess you’re right, I’m looking at it too much with my “adult eyes”. But yeah, when looking at it this way it’s just … bad, like really, from every angle - premise, plot, characters and their motivation, … I have a really hard time to finish it when my daughters watch it.

          And I know people say “it’s just a Disney fairytale” but so is f.e. Tangled and it handled all those points perfectly. And yet the Frozen is the all-time-hit and not Tangled. But as you said, it’s aimed at little girls and not grumpy old man like me :) And from that point it did a perfect job obviously.

          PS Moana is just amazing and “You’re welcome” is one of my most fovorite songs of all time! :)

        It’s because Elsa was originally written as a villain until Let It Go was written and they pivoted the story so it’s less one dimensional than most Disney films

          Ok that explains a lot actually :D Because this is one of my main problems with the film, have you noticed how many people Elsa tries to murder? And not like by accident, murder on purpose, in anger but on purpose! Including Anna, that snow troll would for sure murder her if it wouldn’t be for Hans

      Every song is an absolute banger. They rope you in with We Don’t Talk About Bruno. But then you realize how deep and relatable Surface Pressure is. Next thing you know, you’re a 40-something year old man letting your inner princess out belting along to What Else Can I Do? Then if you’re up for a good cry and learning some Spanish, you wrap it up with Dos Orugitas.

      It’s the only movie my kid watches. I’ve seen it maybe 30 times. It’s great Broadway-esque sound track is the only reason I’m not a raving lunatic right now.

      We tried branching out and introducing some variety. Barely made it through Coco before we had to go back to Encanto…

        I saw that, but it’s weird because Nielsen explicitly can’t do streaming views and state as much. Normally when streaming is discussed with any accurate measure we use SambaTV and even then we just multiply by 3 and say “that’s as close as we are going to get”.

    Mainly because a lot of those movies weren’t released in 2022.

    I wonder how many parents and babysitters used movies to keep their kids entertained. Parents and babysitter should be interacting with the kids more then using movies as a distraction. I know there is too much TV time for kids as parents and babysitters would rather scroll social media or whatever then playing a board game with the kids for example.

      I still have to see Luca and Coco. I’ve heard good things about both but know way more people that have seen Coco than Luca. They did not advertise it very well or something.

        Coco is good but Luca is incredibly mid imo. I just feel like it’s missing some important scenes, which makes the whole thing just feel… off. And what would have made a good movie become pretty well, mid.

        I’ve noticed this more and more with Pixar and Disney movies, I can just think of a bunch of scenes ranging from 1 minute to 20 depending on how you want to play it that would just complete the movie. Moana had this issue too but Moana was good without it. It would just be better imo.
