With Reddit, and perhaps also Twitter. Personally I deleted my accounts on both platforms and came here today, because I feel it was the moral thing to do. And I hope both platforms will burn down, and the new way forward is more community-driven social media instead of capitalist-driven. But realistically I think both will just slowly get worse in terms of quality (well, twitter doesn’t have much quality content for a while now anyway) and muddle through for a while. In the end it could go either way I think? What are your thoughts on where those platforms will end up, realistically?

I doubt either will die quickly. More like a decade-long process of fading into obscurity, followed by a corporate takeover that barely even makes the news. People were wondering the same about Facebook back when everyone started realizing that place is a shit hole, but it still lingers on! Isn’t Yahoo even still around?

classic 80/20 rule. You don’t need 100% of your users gone, but if your top posters/contributors leave or don’t interact as much the other 80 will feel it. For now quality content was the padding that made the corporate marking palatable. But as OC leaves it’s just gonna be more and more filler.

Id rather a key bump of pure lemmy internet than a kilo of babypowder and movie marketing.
