I am trying to subscribe to external communities but keep getting pending?
Yeah, lemmy.world and lemmy.ml can be problematic (at least my instance is not the only one having these issues)
They still seem to be subscribed to though

This is a common problem when subscribing to big instances. Basically you requested to get on the list but the other instance hasn’t responded to agree.
I know lemmy.ml has been an issue for many people on lots of instances but lemmy.world doesn’t often come up as an issue. They are still running an old version of Lemmy, maybe it’s related?
How long has it been like this? as I understand it they should eventually resolve, you’re just on a backlog at the other server.
Having left them for weeks, it’s pretty clear they often don’t resolve. However it seems 18.1 is likely to help.
I’ve found that unsubscribing then subscribing again usually fixes it pretty much instantly. But then I was only having the problem on earlier versions of Lemmy so I don’t know if that still works.
The other issue I’ve run into is the Join and Block buttons being unavailable (meaning that cancelling Pending might not result in being able to hit Subscribe again). This is another issue that sounds like it has fixes coming.
That’s not good. I haven’t actually tried joining any new communities since 0.18. I just went looking at one I’m not subscribed to on lemmy.world and “Subscribe” and “Block community” are both just text. Clicking does nothing.
Surely this has to be a pretty high priority for the devs.
Weird, I haven’t seen that! 0.18.1 is due soon, we will upgrade as long as there isn’t any critical bugs with it, and then we can see if that’s still an issue.
