What bigger Lemmy instances do you guys like for talking about gaming, current events, general meme posting etc? Burggit is great ofc but, it’s also very small. I was hopeful about sh.itjust.works but they got filled with the sort of people of made Reddit lousy in the first place fast, I’m not too hopeful for it long term. Also, if I’m on another instance, there’s no risk of posting “normal” stuff and having it tied to this account, hah!
Find one that’s well-federated and it won’t matter which one you’re on. FMHY is (currently) not blocked by any major ones, and only blocks lemmygrad. I can interact fully with communities, posts, and comments and Beehaw, lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, etc.
Awesome Lemmy Instances has a bunch of suggestions, although their data is a bit outdated now.
The ones made/run by lemmy devs: lemmy.ml, lemmygrad.ml (often defederated by others over far-left political stance)
The big ones: lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, beehaw.org (defederated from previous two over spamming and mod tools issues, could refederate in the future)
And many others on the big list.
I ended up creating an account in a mid-sized instance which wasn’t blocked by any of the big ones. Defederation drama between them makes lemmy browsing quite a hassle, as I already switch between two accounts: general and cunnies.
I use sh.it.justworks for general stuff, though they’re going down the path of “defederate everyone who dissents” really fucking quick, the admins banned me from voting in the current defederation vote entirely because I expressed that I wouldn’t support it, but theres a lot of decent content there, and it’s where NonCredibleDefense went, so that’s a draw for me. I tend to use exploding heads for more politics/news type of stuff since it’s the rare instance not dominated by the far left
