Can someone explain mechanics pls

Example:
- Visit the goo boss
- Die to the goo boss
- start a new game with a new character
- reach goo boss level, you’ll find a broken item (warrior sword, huntress bow, etc. )
- just pick it up and hold it in your inventory
- kill boss
The class who died determines the flavor of the broken item that drops but is otherwise irrelevant.
This also works with other bosses, but goo would be the fastest one to get to.
Tip: when you intend to ascend with the hero item, just leave it on the ground by the stairs before you go down; pick it up on the way out
