Thousands marched on the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night. The group planned to travel to Park 578 near the United Center, but they were turned away by Chicago police and funneled back to Union Park.
Noooo you can’t criticize my candidate it will make it harder for her to win like how people criticized Biden which made him quit and… checks notes completely turn around the election?
Huh, it’s almost as if people are literally begging to vote for someone they want to vote for
I think we can both agree this is a very complicated/politically nuanced situation
No, I don’t agree with that. People have been gaslit (sorry) into thinking it’s a complicated situation with no fixes when reality is very cut and dry: Colonialist forces invaded, created an ethnostate, forced the population into an open prison and are proceeding to commit genocide with full support of the freedom loving international community.
There are people who think this is inhumane and they’re right to make their voices heard. It’s the candidate’s job to compromise with their electorate, not the other way around.
Er, it was the British who colonized Palestine. Then the Jews came as refugees who had been invited by Britain. Then the British left, and it was the Jews who created the ethnostate.
So the people who invaded and the people who created the ethnostate were two different groups of people.
Sorry if that sounds pedantic, but I think it’s important to be clear on what happened in this case.
Sure. They did that too, but that was after the creation of the ethnostate.
Britain took Palestine in 1916. In 1917, they invited Jews to settle there in the Balfour Declaration.
The British left in May 1948, and the Jewish settlers declared the existence of Israel (driving out 750,000 Palestinian refugees) in July. Then Israel annexed East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza in 1967, and they’ve been building illegal settlements in the West Bank since then.
Again, just trying to be clear on what happened. I’m not trying to downplay any of it.
There were still land purchases during the British Mandate for the future ethnostate that led to the forced displacement of around a hundred thousand Palestinians that worked and lived on those lands
Sorry, I’m just not a fan of terrorists. That’s just based on my personal experiences and world view. I hope you can see my point of view in the same way I try to see yours
I understand I’ll get downvoted for this but Harris said herself, as did Biden this week at the DNC that the protesters have a point, and that Harris wants a 2-state solution, ceasefire, hostages returned. Donald Trump wants Bibi to hold off and kill the ceasefire, to “finish the job”.
Harris is the best route to ensuring that Palestine continues to receive US based aid as well as support for the end of the war.
It is NEVER about getting EVERYTHING or NOTHING. If you set yourself on all or nothing, you will almost always end up with nothing.
I’m voting Harris because I believe she is the best chance Palestine has right now.
Apparently dissent on Lemmy is marked as “genocide” and censored. Between this and all Israel news outlets being censored, it’s pretty clear this is just a pro-terrorism platform. Goodbye.
And many of these Palestine protester groups are on a team of their own, they are looking for an ‘all or nothing solution’ and anything else is against the team so burn it all down (many interviewed talk of destroying the whole system). Interesting how it’s okay when it supports your interest, huh?

People are worried because of the upcoming election. We should still hold our politicians accountable, regardless. I agree.

That’s ignoring decades of land grabs by aforementioned ethnostate. Don’t make me post that chart

There wouldn’t be any Palestinian terrorism if Israel would stop oppressing the Palestinians.
Same, I’m not a fan of Israelie State terrorists killing journalists and children either.
10/7 denialism is strong here. Showing the true colors with the Nazi play book.
Who denies that? Both Hamas and the Israeli government are terrorists wanted by the ICC for crimes against humanity.
They all suck and it’s the people living there that suffer the consequences.
How? They murder journalists and children, and terrorize Palestinians. It’s proven. That’s not a nazi conspiracy.
Politics has become a team sport. They only care about themselves and if their team “wins”.

“I’m voting for Trump because I want Israel to finish off the terrorists in Gaza.”
There are two problems with this:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/02/gaza-palestinian-children-killed-idf-israel-war
https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/israel-posts-video-saying-are-no-innocent-civilians-gaza-rcna157111
So, yeah, backing Trump’s statement that Israel needs to “get it over with fast”? That’s advocating genocide.
