Today, we want to inform everyone that we have decided to defederate from
https://exploding-heads.com/ [https://exploding-heads.com/]. We understand that
defederating should always be a last resort, and individuals can certainly block
communities. However, blocking alone does not prevent potential harm to
vulnerable communities. After carefully reviewing the instance, reported posts,
and multiple comments from the community, we have concluded that exploding-heads
is not adhering to the Lemmy or Citizen Code of Conduct. Therefore, we cannot,
in good faith, continue to federate with an instance that consistently promotes
hate, racism, and bullying. Examples:

- Community Moderator Post Again, deciding to defederate from an instance is not
taken lightly. In the future, we will continue to review instances on a
case-by-case bases. As for our community, please refrain from posting or
commenting with hateful words as well. Arguing back and calling people names is
not the solution. The best course of action is to report the posts or comments
violating our server rules. Lemmy Code of Conduct

It gives me hope for the future of beehaw refederating with that instance. They host some interesting communities. To be clear, I fully support beehaw defederating, it’s just heartwarming to see instance admins do things that move things forward
Tolerance is not a moral absolute; it is a peace treaty. Tolerance is a social norm because it allows different people to live side-by-side without being at each other’s throats. It means that we accept that people may be different from us, in their customs, in their behavior, in their dress, in their sex lives, and that if this doesn’t directly affect our lives, it is none of our business. But the model of a peace treaty differs from the model of a moral precept in one simple way: the protection of a peace treaty only extends to those willing to abide by its terms. It is an agreement to live in peace, not an agreement to be peaceful no matter the conduct of others. A peace treaty is not a suicide pact.
Gotta love the good ole tolerance paradox
No paradox there: tolerance is not a moral precept. Relevant quote:
While I understand what you are getting at, it is literally self-defined as ‘the paradox of tolerance’ by Karl Popper.
…and they are posting a common rebuttal to the concept, which disagrees with that label and conclusion.
Well, not quite a “rebuttal”, more of a fine-tuning to get rid of the paradox issue, but yeah :P
Not a paradox. Tolerance is a peace treaty, not a moral precept.
We don’t call it a “diplomacy paradox” when a country responds to getting invaded by killing the invaders.
Isn’t that what Karl Popper, the guy quoted for saying that, calls it though?
Yes, but some disagree with the premise, on the basis that has been posted above.
Not allowed. One guy said a thing and that’s that now. /s
