    yeah, top 40 country, especially from the late 80s on, really really put a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths for the genre, but old timey country, country & blues from the 70s, early 80s lightly pop country of Rogers and Pardon, and then 90s alternative country really is great stuff. Still tons of indie country going on that’s just ignored by people - mostly because modern pop country is dominated by a bunch of MAGA weirdos lol

      Truly encapsulates my experience in exploring the genre. To be fair though once you start diving into the random alternative side of any music there’s a chance you could end up in a dark corner with killer beats. Happened to me the other day when I sat down and really analyzed the lyrics to a band I liked in my youth only to realize they were overtly militaristic and religious in nature.
