I know it’s mentioned every time they come up, but man, what an unbelievable 180 NMS pulled off since launch
Maybe for some, I bought the game for the promise of a plethora of flora and fauna, but it is all the same in different colors. As wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle. I try it with every single update and it got better but it is still not what they teased it to be. Happy for everyone who loves it though.
Not liking it is not the same as not delivering. The game is exactly what they set out to make from the get-go.
That being said at launch they absolutely did not deliver and deserved to be shamed. Though certainly not harassed like they were, unfortunately
It’s more like the people that didn’t like it stopped playing it and the only ones left were the people who actually liked it. The game isn’t for everyone, but while it has had a lot of nice updates, it’s not fundamentally different from what it started as.
Nobody said it was “fundamentally different.” It’s just been iterated on heavily and original promises have been delivered and more. It’s not the same game at launch at all.
When was the last time you actually played it?
Last I played it was a couple years ago.
My impression has always been that people were underwhelmed by the procedurally generated game. Idk exactly what people expected a heavily procedurally generated game to look like. It was never going to have terrain that looked as good as in hand-crafted games.
The only real promise I know they made and initially didn’t keep but later fixed is multiplayer.
It regularly has 10-20k concurrent players on steam despite being 8 years old. Almost 50,000 after the most recent update.
People are clearly not as underwhelmed as you think. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean your opinion is the dominant one.
I completely agree that the game is a lot of breath and not a whole lot of depth in many respects, but that really doesn’t change anything. It clearly pleased a lot of people. Go see the reviews if you doubt me.
You misunderstand.
I like the game. I have always liked the game.
I don’t think there are many people who like the game now who didn’t originally.
It’s not a game for everyone. Some people went in expecting Eve Online or Star Citizen (what a finished Star Citizen would look like). Instead it’s a 3D Starship Omega with a touch of Minecraft. but I liked Starship Omega so I liked No Man’s Sky.

Based on? Because even in 2022 they were selling well. TL;DR: They cleared ~$50mill in revenue on a game with no DLC. So I’d be very curious where you’re getting your information from, as that clearly shows they are still selling units.

I never said it was for everyone or anything about expectations.
Let’s not enable this to become an actual marketing strategy…
Yeah, other studios will think they can spend eight years making their game better for free
No. They think they can purposefully release a half assed game after promising something entirely different and then drip feed the previously removed content over the years while fixing the purposefully introduced bugs in order to be praised as heroes by gullible simps.
That is already the standard but without the redemption. That’s what people applaud here. That they invested in it and not abandoning it.
You clearly need to work on your reading comprehension because no, that is absolutely not the standard already. I’m literally describing an example of literal fraud.
Clearly…
Feel free to give me some example games that removed content before the release, added intentional bugs and then drip fed the removed content back in while “fixing” the intentional bugs for their image. If it is the standard already I’m sure you should have an entire list ready to prove me wrong.
Not everyone is intentionally shitty.
Just the majority.
One day I’ll stop reinstalling this game… It won’t be this day.
Have you considered just…not uninstalling it?
Not OP, but I do the same thing. I would leave it installed, but I always end up getting bored after a while. I can’t explain it exactly, I feel like they’re building a mansion on top of a shack, like there’s impressive new stuff but some of the core aspects haven’t changed at all
Yeah, it’s still boring
I have, but I think each time that I’ve had my fill and won’t be playing it ever again.
Damn. Perfect time to map some of those new worlds and creatures for the Hub👨🔬 🦑
I can’t wait to load up my Pirate save after I finish walking the dog. I wonder what the next expedition will be like?
I wasn’t expecting ths big of a change, but should have expected it after the Space Stations update.
Did they ever make any ui changes? The worst part of this game was being mid battle trying to menu and add materials to your ship or guns or whatever. The ui and gameplay from this aspect was god awful. No amount of adding other things makes this game good for me if the bad menu ui and mechanics are still a thing.
I’ve just tried to play again on pc with a dual sense controller. It feels like I’m fighting the game the whole time. Maybe I need to try something other than the default configuration.
Props to hello games though. It has probably the most complete support for steam input actions and action sets that I’ve ever seen. Better than portal even.
I like the mouse and keyboard controls. A lot of these functions can be handled by pressing the X key.
I do too but I’m old and my wrist can’t handle more than 15-20 minutes of mouse aiming anymore.
Gyro controls usually bridge the gap for me but my first attempt didn’t go well. I’ll give it another try in a while. I just saw neon white and curse of the golden idol just got added to gamepass so I’ll be playing those for the next week or two probably.
Seems like planets have been scaled up? Otherwise the increased height in the terrain will make them look even goofier than before. I’m guessing some of that terrain work is also in preparation for their other game. Aside from the atrocious gameplay loop this was probably one of my biggest issues with the game.
