    How is Death Valley hotter than the deserts of the Middle East, or locations on the Equator?

      From a quick Google:

      • It’s in a rain shadow, so no rain for plants to absorb heat
      • It’s below sea level - lower you go, the higher air pressure, so it’s drier+hotter
      • Surrounded by mountain peaks, the air heats up as it descends into the valley
