I know I’m technically part of the problem but this thread got me thinking about the Endless September. I’m pretty sure the numbers in the linked thread are inflated, but regardless, this definitely feels like a turning point for the preexisting LemmyNet culture.

Eh, it’s not too bad from our corner. The “all” feed is a lot more like Reddit, but that’s not all bad.

The 'grad is great with all the nice new people, and all. The admins and mods here are good, and plenty experienced with the kind of trolls we get.

Plus there’s better sport arguing with the new libs, when the mood strikes. They don’t really understand where they are yet.

the old users must be so annoyed about the new kids thinking they own the place, but as a new kid myself I am very glad they set up all the groundwork for us to ruin the fun.

But the site on the-federation.info looks like this, so I’d take it with whole bag of salt.

Yeah I know some instances have found and purged a lot of bot accounts, so that’s encouraging! Obviously active users will always be a better metric.

Users to people is especially not 1:1 on Lemmy even excluding all bots because people make accounts on several instances

New site culture is objectively a good thing if tempered correctly by willing moderators, assuming they haven’t yet reached burnout or overwork (a very real risk of so many new users)
