I’m new to lemmy. Are the conservatives here a Trump cult? Or are these old school conservatives that want their party back?

Not sure either. There is a lot of unhinged lefties on Lemmy; I haven’t seen much commentary from the far right at all. It would be nice to find some level headed discussion that isn’t strictly red vs. blue.

So, I just got banned from leftymemes@lemmy.dbzer0.com for having a simple difference of opinion…

I’m not even right-leaning at all. Most conservatives might think I’m pretty far left, despite being an independent voter that has voted on both sides of the isle over the last decade.

So yes, it appears there are definitely some lefties here that just want an echo chamber, and nothing else. It’s a bad look for Lemmy, honestly… I never got banned this quickly from anything on Reddit.

I do think that instance is specifically a safe space for communists like lemmygrad. So far I haven’t been banned anywhere but I don’t engage in politics in places where I’m just being held to some litmus test of conviction.

Oh, I assure you it’s a very safe place for someone… I don’t know if it’s an entire community, or just a really special moderator that doesn’t like dissenting opinions, but I remember seeing the notification with a good measure of disbelief.

It’s ironic that anyone on the far-left would utilize such an authoritative approach to moderation. To be fair, I’ve only seen this from this one community so far - I’m fairly certain the grand majority of the Fediverse is very down with free speech - especially when the people speaking are being respectful, thoughtful, and rational.

I just got railed in a shitpost community for being a gay Christian and discussing my views honestly. It got so bad people were implying I said stuff I didn’t lmao.

I mentioned the people who protest pride with hate signs and megaphones and someone tried to turn it around and say I was calling gay people bigots. I replied saying they misunderstood me and explained what I meant and they were upvoted and I was downvoted.

It was so unhinged a mod basically stepped in saying they wouldn’t remove all the comments harassing me because apparently they were being “civil” but imo it was far a far cry from civil at all.

So here I am now with the app I’m using saying my comment “karma” totals -305, not that I care. But Lemmy users are absolutely mental, even when compared to Redditors because at least Reddit enforces its rules.

Honestly, here on Lemmy upvotes and downvotes mean less than ever… I’ve kept my good habits from Reddit, and I don’t use multiple accounts to ever inflate my votes, but I’m not even sure it’s against the rules to do so.

So you very well may have been dealing with one lonely dude on the internet stacking his own votes.

For what it’s worth, my comment that I got banned for was actually upvoted a decent amount. I wonder if they are going to track those people’s upvotes through kbin and ban those people, too? The Fediverse is definitely a very interesting frontier right now.

Agreed on all fronts and the one dude theory is certainly possible, although the flood of hateful comments was jarring. Karma has never mattered to me but -305 overnight was nothing short of impressive.

I came to Lemmy expecting better honestly but so far my experience has been a more volatile version of Reddit. You’re right though, it’s an interesting frontier. I hope more rational “free-speech within reason” instances pop-up at some point because so far the ones I’ve heard of were defederated from popular ones.

I wonder if kbin is any better.

I consider this sub ‘about’ conservatism, but not in the sense that it’s ‘for’ people that self-identify as conservative.

I try to avoid political identities but I am surrounded by self-identified ‘conservatives’ so it’s an interesting topic to me and this is a place I share my opinions and observations on the subject of that identity.

But short answer- this ain’t nobody’s safe-space or echo-chamber, at least not unless\until enough mods that want it to be work to make it that. I think that shit is better left back on Reddit.

I’m sure conservatives will all celebrate this demonstration of US commitment to the rule of law and protecting our men and women in uniform.

It will be hilarious to watch it unfold, given the polling with independents on Trump is already in the toilet.

as memory serves, Hillary was polled to win. didnt happen though. and the Democrats flipped out, then whined about it for 4 years.

If you think after the epic loss Drumpf suffered last time, PR from all these criminal trials is somehow good… wow. Also, if you think pollsters didn’t learn from 2016… wow.

          and the Democrats flipped out

At least they didn’t try to overturn an election over it with a riot while claiming to be the party of law and order.

then whined about it for 4 years.

And conservatives whined about Obama for 8

That’s kinda just how the U.S. is.
