There has never been a peaceful cure for fascism. Handling an infestation of fascism has historically always required force.
I’m not so sure enough normal people are willing to do what’s needed to curb this unchecked conservatism.

So what do you think people need to do?

i wish i understood the obsession with replacing cruz.
i get that he’s an unlikeable asshole; but i don’t get how anyone expects that he can be unseated in a place like texas.
The senate map is tougher for dems this cycle (more seats to defend then Republicans) so any gettable flip matters a lot
Leaked republican internal polling has the race only a point apart. Internals are usually more favorable for your own party too.
Texas has gotten more blue over the years and he only won by 2ish points against Beto. Cruz could certainly lose this time around and that is not something we can afford to ignore
that is not something we can afford to ignore
that’s what i’m referring to; the DNC has been ignoring it so much that they’ve given tepid-at-best support for texan democrats for decades.
also: democrats don’t bother to understand why people don’t vote and still bother to do nothing about it once educated on why; but republicans do bother to understand do bother to do something about it.
that’s they their victories are usually in the single digit range in texas; they take action to suppress the vote when they see that there’s a chance that they might lose and no one who has the sufficient clout to contest it does so.
There are countless lawsuits lied to try to block their voter suppression in Texas. They often do block some of it. Without control of the Texas state legislature, it’s difficult to do more than action in the judicial system
The DNC is investing more heavily this cycle in Texas

i suspect extremely few, if any, people/groups within texas have the necessary clout; but something like the DNC does through its donors.

it’s been increasing over the years and still nowhere near enough.
Because I would like my country to be a better place?
Democrats should put their best foot forward in every senate race. Push hard and get the message out. It just takes a couple unlikely wins. Maybe they won’t win the senate, but it might push enough people to vote blue in local races.
that works in some parts of the country and i used to believe it too; but living in texas has disabused me of this belief and this cookie cutter approach of simply pushing people to vote without bothering to understand why they’re not nor taking action to help is dooming democrats in texas because the republicans do bother understand and do bother to take action for their beloved texas.
Meh, I always think it’s good to keep trying. But yeah, to your point, the odds are not in Dems favor.
trying make sense; but you have to do it wisely.
democrats don’t bother to understand why people aren’t voting and; even when someone educates them on why; they still don’t bother to do anything about it.
living in texas has taught me that republicans do bother with understanding and also take actions to “protect” texas.
not even the DNC is bothering to provide full support for texan democrats so it begs the question: what are democrats expecting when they’re not trying anywhere near as much as the republicans are.
You bring up some great points.
they’re not mine; they come from the VERY few leftists that i met in texas.
also: why do you think people downvoting your question addressed to me? i can get it if it’s rude or insulting, but it’s literally a completely uncharged question.
Don’t worry, it has nothing to do with you, friend.
There are many in here who think it’s fun to downvote every single thing I say, regardless of content or context.
So just ignore it. You haven’t done anything wrong. Thanks, friend! :)
i had a similar suspicion since i get the same thing and the speed at which it happens makes it clear that they’re using something like an API.
that means that the admins of .world are aware of it and turning a blind eye towards it; which is surprising considering how they’ve publicly called out other admins from other instances for doing similar underhanded things.
i expect that from conservatives; not lemmy-ites.
You make some good points. I don’t know much about scripts or bots or API. But it is weird how quickly many of my posts and comments get downvoted, even in other communities. And in fact, many in those other communities often wonder why I get so many downvotes since it’s unrelated to content or context.
So you may be right. But I don’t care. The downvoters are just mad because I have different views than them.
It won’t stop me from posting or comment. Thanks friend! :)
