Mosquitofish were introduced directly into ecosystems in many parts of the world as a biocontrol to lower mosquito populations which in turn negatively affected many other species in each distinct bioregion.

    So odd you posted this. Currently raising a tank of these babies. Been researching optimal substrates for them all night. Lol.

      I was watching a nature documentary about the Adriatic and they mentioned importing fish to combat malaria in Venice. I didnt hear the genus, so instead of rewinding 15 seconds I went down a rabbit hole on wiki and pubmed on larvivorous fish.

        This is my second time trying to raise them. About 10 years ago, they were far too nippy to have tank mates of other species. But this time it’s just them alone. Such curious little fish.
